Autodesk Desktop Products 2025/2026: .NET 10 Updates

Microsoft has announced that .NET 8 and .NET 9 will reach end of support on November 10, 2026. After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide updates, including security fixes or technical support, for these versions.

To stay current and secure, Autodesk products are updating their .NET dependency to .NET 10 across the 2026 and 2025 release lines. The release dates for AutoCAD (and verticals), Vault, Inventor, and Revit have been intentionally aligned for both the 2026 and 2025 upgrades that introduce .NET 10 support. The primary driver is to resolve cross-product dependency and compatibility issues around shared components, including RealDWG, the Revit Core Engine, the Vault SDK, and Civil 3D / Plant 3D / Advance Steel objects.

If these releases were not aligned, the biggest risk to users would be broken workflows and reduced interoperability across products — particularly for products like Vault that depend on compatibility across the wider ecosystem. Install updates for all your Autodesk products within the same release year together to avoid these issues.

There is no API change in any of these products as part of this update — only the underlying .NET runtime is moving from .NET 8 to .NET 10. Existing plug-ins and add-ins should continue to work once recompiled/retargeted against .NET 10.

Release timing will vary by product and is subject to change.

• Test your plug-ins and add-ins now against the available beta and RC builds below.
• Install updates for all your Autodesk products within the same release year together (e.g., all 2026 products).

Tips for Migration

AutoCAD

If you build a custom Object Enabler (OE) using C++/CLI with managed code, this update directly affects you. Simply put, this combination cannot work:

.NET 10 AutoCAD + .NET 8 OE, where the OE still ships a runtimeconfig.json that pins its dependency to .NET 8.

• Rebuild and update your Object Enabler’s managed (C++/CLI) code from .NET 8 to .NET 10.
• Remove any stale runtimeconfig.json shipped with your OE that references .NET 8 — this is the simplest fix if you can’t rebuild right away, since a stale config referencing the wrong runtime version is what breaks loading under .NET 10 AutoCAD.

Vault

The Vault SDK interface has no changes for this release, but the .NET runtime dependency must be updated to .NET 10. For R2025.5, DevExpress was also bumped from 22.2.12 to 25.1.6 — third-party developers referencing DevExpress directly may want to update to the same version if needed.
